Acceptance of Terms

By inviting, using, or continuing to use The Sentinel Discord Bot ("the Bot," "our service," or "we"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our service.

Description of Service

The Sentinel is a Discord utility bot that provides:

• Moderation Tools: Ban, kick, mute, warn, and manage users
• Auto-Moderation: Spam detection, content filtering, and automated responses
• Logging Systems: Message, member, and moderation action logging
• Analytics: Server statistics and user activity tracking
• Utility Commands: Server information, polls, and various helpful tools
• Starboard: Message highlighting and community features

User Responsibilities

Appropriate Use

You agree to use the Bot only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Use the Bot to violate Discord's Terms of Service
• Attempt to exploit, hack, or compromise the Bot's functionality
• Use the Bot for harassment, spam, or malicious activities
• Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the Bot's code
• Use the Bot in ways that could damage or impair our services

Server Administration

If you are a server administrator:

• You are responsible for configuring the Bot appropriately
• You must ensure your server complies with Discord's Terms of Service
• You are responsible for the actions of moderators using the Bot
• You must respect user privacy and data protection requirements

Moderation Use

When using moderation features:

• Use moderation tools responsibly and fairly
• Provide clear reasons for moderation actions
• Respect user rights and follow your server's rules
• Do not abuse administrative privileges

Bot Permissions and Data Access

Required Permissions

The Bot requires certain Discord permissions to function:

• Read Messages: To process commands and monitor content
• Send Messages: To respond to commands and send notifications
• Manage Messages: For moderation and cleanup features
• Manage Roles: For role management and reaction roles
• Ban/Kick Members: For moderation actions
• View Audit Log: For logging and audit trails
• Read Message History: For message tracking and analytics

Data Collection

By using the Bot, you consent to the collection and processing of data as described in our Privacy Policy. This includes:

• User information (ID, username, avatar)
• Message content and statistics
• Voice activity (when enabled)
• Moderation actions and logs
• Server analytics and metrics

Prohibited Uses

You may not use our service:

• For any unlawful purpose or to solicit others to perform unlawful acts
• To violate any international, federal, provincial, or state regulations, rules, laws, or local ordinances
• To infringe upon or violate our intellectual property rights or the intellectual property rights of others
• To harass, abuse, insult, harm, defame, slander, disparage, intimidate, or discriminate

• To spam, phish, pharm, pretext, spider, crawl, or scrape
• For any obscene or immoral purpose

Service Availability

Uptime and Maintenance

• We strive to maintain high service availability but do not guarantee 100% uptime
• We may perform scheduled maintenance with reasonable notice
• Emergency maintenance may occur without notice
• We are not liable for service interruptions

Feature Changes

• We may add, modify, or remove features at any time
• We will provide reasonable notice for significant changes
• Some features may be temporarily disabled for maintenance

Limitation of Liability

Service Limitations

• The Bot is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
• We do not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the service
• We are not responsible for any damages resulting from Bot usage
• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages

User Responsibility

• Users are responsible for their own actions and decisions
• Server administrators are responsible for their server's compliance
• Users must ensure they have appropriate permissions before using moderation features

Intellectual Property

Bot Ownership

• The Sentinel Bot and its code are proprietary
• Users may not copy, modify, or distribute the Bot's code
• All rights, title, and interest in the service remain with us

User Content

• Users retain ownership of their content
• By using the service, you grant us necessary rights to process your content
• We do not claim ownership of user-generated content

Termination

By Users

• You may stop using the Bot at any time
• Server administrators may remove the Bot from their servers (which immediately deletes all server-associated data)
• You may request deletion of your personal data by contacting bot administrators
• Data retention follows our published Privacy Policy and retention schedules

By Us

We may terminate or suspend access to our service immediately, without prior notice, for:

• Violation of these Terms
• Violation of Discord's Terms of Service
• Misuse of the service
• Legal or regulatory requirements
• Technical or security reasons

Data Retention

• Automatic Cleanup: We automatically delete data according to our retention policies:
  • Message purge records: 24 hours
  • Message logs: Records kept for 365 days, content cleared after 90 days
  • Message statistics: 365 days
  • Orphaned user data: 30 days after leaving all servers
• Permanent Records: Moderation records (warnings, bans, etc.) are retained permanently for audit and compliance purposes
• User Requests: You may request data deletion by contacting bot administrators (they can use the /deleteuserdata command)
• Guild Removal: When the bot is removed from a server, all associated data is immediately deleted
